Universal Halloween Horror Nights Rolls Out the Red Carpet for IAAPA and IAHA

As part of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA)’s Expo that took place at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL this past November, IAHA sponsored a sold out “Behind the Scenes” tour of Universal Studios’ renowned Halloween Horror Nights. Universal Studios literally rolled out the red carpet for 400 of the Expos attendees. The program began backstage with a first class reception in one of the studio’s soundstages. Inside, guests were treated to a catered dinner, open bar and video presentation before breaking up into several groups to tour two of Universal’s attractions from the past season – A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dreamwalkers and Psychoscarepy: Home for the Holidays.

Groups waiting for their turn to tour the attractions had the opportunity to view costume exhibits, see examples of previous Halloween Horror Nights’ websites, observe make up demonstrations and participate in an informal Q & A session with the event’s creators.

The experience was one that both novice and veteran haunters will be sure to cherish for years to come. “At our wrap party this year we gave away a all expenses paid trip to IAAPA with all the perks including the special Universal Horror Nights Social,” said IAHA member Tony Wohlgemuth, who is the president of Spooky Woods in North Carolina. “The lucky winner was Joh Harp, a new staff member that has been learning how to create masks from our resident artist, Mark Goodson a formal Universal Florida artist, all summer long. Joh was blown away and the high light of the trip was getting to talk to some of the staff of the Horror Nights artists and get first hand experience of behind the making of this amazing event. He got to see the process of how the sets come from rough sketches to final production. The experience was one he will carry with him for a life time.”
